Currently in digital analytics, there is more and more information from different platforms, a mess when it comes to unify all these silos of information from our users. But there is Google to give us a solution and go unifying data, with a beta of the App + Web properties, for the moment it is only a beta, but with continuous improvements and changes. Today, the data from the Web site and Application of our business are collected and analyzed separately, but for a better understanding and more complete reports, the solution is to bring everything together in the same property.

Remember that this new product is in BETA, so although you can start using it, especially if you have already implemented the User ID, not all features are available.

Some of the most important changes

  • Interface change: the GA4F interface is used, if you are familiar with the tool it will not be too complicated, otherwise you will have to experiment and learn.

  • Goodbye to views: we will no longer be able to filter data in separate views. This adds a difficulty to the management of permissions to access information by different profiles.
  • Events: now everything is an event, so if we want to measure the <<pages viewed>>If the event is not configured as an event, we will have to set it up as an event and call it <<page_view>>. Estos eventos también cambian su estructura, se acabo categoría, acción y valor del evento, solo tendremos <<event name>> and the fields will be replaced by <<parameters>>.
  • No customized dimensions or metrics: they become <<parameters>> and its configuration will be of type <<text>>as if it were a dimension, or <<number>>as a metric.
  • The user-level dimensions also change: they will be <<user properties>> and have a menu to create them and add a description.
  • New Real-time: improved real-time, you can see in more detail what is going on, including the current session of a specific user.

To implement it

It depends on your account, in some of them you can see it when you create a new property in Google Analytics, but if you don’t see it, you must do it from firebase.google.com, creating a project and enabling the option of <<Google Analytics>>. En

<<Administration>> you can see the option of <<Data Streams>>If you use GA copied directly on the site or if you use Google Tag Manager, it makes it easy for you to add the code. Now you can check the most common options you want to measure and start testing.

Recommendations

Google makes it clear that this is the future for Google Analytics and these properties, so we recommend that you start using it now, familiarizing yourself with the tool and its use. But it is too early to leave aside the current version and move exclusively to this one, since it is BETA and many of the features are not available yet. In summary, what you should do is to continue implementing Universal Analytics as usual, but in parallel, you should create the Web+App property so that it also starts measuring this one, thus making a double tracking. Use both platforms simultaneously, and when the new one is fully operational, you will already have user history.
